Sun spots are usually flat and brownish discolorations of the skin. The appearance of sun spots on the skin do not cause any harm to human body, but these are perceived as stain on the skin. Hence, skin cautious people take care of these spots very seriously. Generally, sun spots occur after crossing the age of 40 years on the back of the hands, neck, and face of the person. Initially they are not much noticeable, but subsequently, they become more perceptible and form larger unattractive splotches that seem very embarrassing, specifically when these spots are on the face. Sun spots are also known as age spots and lentigines.
One of the important reasons of sun spots is a long exposure of skin to the sun that causes photo damage or hyper-pigmentation. Therefore, the first step to prevent sun spots is to protect oneself from direct exposure of skin in the sun light, wear protective clothing, and use sunscreen lotion. These are the pre-caution, people should taken care before the appearance of any sun spot on the skin, but once lentigines appeared on the skin then person should consult dermatologist in order to get proper diagnosed and get treated on time. The initial treatments of sun spots not only prevent any further growth of sun spots but also eliminate the probability of happening skin cancer.
However, the advancement of technologies developed many methods of sun spots treatment such as alpha hydroxyl acid gel, age defense active day cream, beta hydroxyl acid gel. Usually, these creams are used on the spots in the night. The use of these creams lightens the discoloration of the skin. Apart from these creams, others are Retin-A cream - it is applied on the sun spots once a day for six months, alpha hydroxyacid peels – under this treatment mild acid is used on the spots and this is one of the fastest treatments of curing the sun spots, and liquid nitrogen therapy - this is one of the advanced techniques to treat sun spots under which liquid nitrogen is sprayed on the skin resultantly, it heals the skin very quickly, but one of the negative aspects of this treatment is, there is probability of leaving permanent white spot or scar on the skin.
Another way of treatment is laser treatments. The laser treatments are available in all advanced laser clinics which remove sun spots very efficiently.
